   CuriosityBefriending the Inner Critic
Slowing DownEditing as a Creative SkillMetaphor

Most of us don’t realize the extent to which our “inner critic” controls our creative expression. When not focused on acheiving an end result we have more personal freedom. Because our inner critic restrains us unconsciously we can’t imagine the power it actually holds over us.
What do we notice when we don’t like the results? I often find the inner critic can stop students even when the results are extraordinary. Engaging the inner critic with curiosity and compassion helps us let go of expectations, and gives us greater access to our imagination.
